What other travelers say about Tot Montserrat
Genuine reviews from verified GetYourGuide customers.
„The train journey went smoothly. The cable car ride is an experience. The lunch buffet is excellent – everything of very good quality, along with the fantastic view. We can only recommend the ticket; it simply makes the day more relaxed.“
„Montserrat is simply incredible! Our family of six loved it – half of us took the train up, and the other half took the cable car. The buffet was a hit. We saved at least 400 $ by not booking a tour with another provider. The funicular up, the museum, and the path to the Black Madonna – 100 % recommended!“
„The day trip with the Tot-Ticket was wonderful. Transportation to and from Montserrat was completely stress-free. We saw the Black Madonna, took both funiculars, enjoyed the all-you-can-eat lunch, and visited the museum – all included in the ticket. Tip: The pickup point at Plaça Catalunya is in the underground level. Pickup a few days in advance was hassle-free, and we were able to catch an early train.“
„A beautiful day in a magnificent setting. The only suggestion: That the choice between the cogwheel train and the cable car upon departure should be communicated more clearly beforehand.“
Average rating of GetYourGuide:
Cremallera or Aeri – which ascent is better?
The good news: Both options are also included in the Tot Montserrat ticket. You don't have to decide in advance and can choose directly at the train station which train you want to take.
Zipper – the cog railway
Departure: Monistrol de Montserrat
- Runs in all weather and in wind
- Gentler ascent, about a 15-minute ride
- Panoramic windows with views of the rock formations
- Historic line, first opened in 1892 and modernized
The safe choice if you don't like surprises.
Aeri - the cable car
Departure: Montserrat-Aeri
- Just a 5-minute drive for a spectacular view
- Suspension railway with up to 45-degree incline
- Unobstructed view of the valley in all directions
- A photo moment you won't forget anytime soon
The spectacular election can be postponed in strong winds.
Insider tip: The Aeri cable car offers the more spectacular view, but can pause in strong winds. The Cremallera runs in all weather conditions – those who want to play it safe should choose it as a fallback.

You don't need a museum and prefer to eat yourself?
For anyone who just wants to visit the monastery and remain flexible for lunch, the cheaper Trans Montserrat ticket is sufficient. It includes all transportation from Barcelona to the monastery plateau – but without museum entry and without the lunch buffet – and is therefore around €20 cheaper per person.
Frequently Asked Questions about Tot Montserrat
What is included in the Tot Montserrat ticket in addition to Trans Montserrat?
Tot Montserrat includes all the services of Trans Montserrat – meaning the Metro, FGC train, rack railway or cable car, both funiculars at the monastery, the Audiovisual Space, and the Basilica – and additionally includes admission to the Museum of Montserrat, as well as a buffet lunch at the monastery's self-service restaurant. These are the only two differences.
What is there to eat at the lunch buffet?
The self-service buffet restaurant at the monastery serves Catalan cuisine as an all-you-can-eat: salads, hot dishes with meat and fish, side dishes, and desserts. Drinks are not included and will be paid for separately from the menu. The restaurant has a panoramic view of the valley and is usually described as surprisingly good in guest reviews.
What works do I see at the Montserrat Museum?
The Montserrat Museum has around 1,300 exhibits and displays works by Picasso, Dalí, Monet, El Greco, Caravaggio, Miró, and Tàpies. It also features a Modernist section, an archaeological collection from the biblical Near East, and rotating special exhibitions. The museum is open daily from 10:00 AM to 5:45 PM.
Where do I pick up the Tot Montserrat ticket?
At the tourist information office, Plaça de Catalunya 17-S, in the underground level of Plaça Catalunya in Barcelona. Open daily from 8:30 AM to 8:30 PM (except January 1st and December 25th). When picking up, make sure you receive the museum voucher and buffet voucher in addition to the transport tickets. Pick-up is also possible the day before.
Is the Barcelona metro included in the ticket?
Yes. Tot Montserrat includes the round trip on the Barcelona Metro, including to Plaça Espanya, from where the FGC train R5 to Montserrat departs. So you don't need to buy an additional metro ticket.
What happens if the Aeri cable car is canceled due to wind?
No problem. The Cremallera rack railway runs in all weather conditions and is also included in the Tot Montserrat ticket. You can then simply take the Cremallera from Monistrol de Montserrat – both for the ascent and for the return journey.
Is Tot Montserrat worth it compared to Trans Montserrat?
The surcharge from Trans (starting at approx. €50) to Tot (starting at €71.50) is around €20 per person. For this, you get museum admission (single price approx. €8) and the lunch buffet (single price approx. €18–€22). If you were planning to eat at the monastery anyway and are interested in the museum, Tot Montserrat almost always makes sense.
Is the ticket discounted for children?
No. Children up to and including four years of age travel free of charge and do not require their own ticket. From the age of five, the regular price applies – there is no separate child discount.
Can I cancel Tot Montserrat for free?
When booking through GetYourGuide, you can usually cancel for free up to 24 hours before your chosen date. The specific cancellation conditions will be displayed directly above the "Buy" button during the booking process.
